The Availability of 2010 Accommodation
on the North Shore is Now Growing!
According to a new report from Daniel staff
reporter for the North Shore Outlook, there is a growing inventory
for North Shore 2010 accommodation in both West Vancouver and
North Vancouver rental markets for short-term stays. Visitors
to the Vancouver Winter Games will now have a choice of three
main categories of North Shore rental types and 2010 accommodation
that will include multiple cruise ships, a new hotel as well as
furnished 2010 rentals directly from home owners.
This increase in inventory for North Vancouver 2010 rentals and
West Van Olympic accommodation is much needed as the latest statistics
have shown a huge lack in rental housing during the short-term
event. The Winter Olympics are just 6 months away and the North
Vancouver waterfront area is looking to inject a huge supply of
luxury 2010 accommodations to the Lower Lonsdale Pier development.
With most of the downtown Vancouver hotels booked out by the IOC
and VANOC, this leaves the majority of 2010 hotel suites in the
Lower Lonsdale, North Vancouver area. Right now, approximately
80% of all the downtown 2010 hotel rooms are booked or held under
an agreement between the Olympic officials and hotels themselves,
so the new 105 room Lower Lonsdale Pier Hotel called the waterfront
Pinnacle Hotel at the Pier will likely be a huge draw for visitors
looking for luxury North Vancouver 2010 hotel suites during their
stay.
In addition, there has already been confirmation that there is
a 1119 room cruise ship docking on the North Shore for the duration
of the Winter Olympic Games. Right now, the ‘locked off’
downtown Vancouver 2010 hotel suites can actually be released
by the hotel come August 2009, but it is expected that most of
the hotel rooms will be kept by VANOC and the IOC. As far as the
Lonsdale Quay Hotel is almost fully reserved, and it is anticipated
that very few hotel rooms will be released come August. However,
with Pinnacle International’s new Lower Lonsdale Pinnacle
Hotel at the Pier North Vancouver under construction and ready
to be open in December 2009, this will inject a full 105 rooms
to the general public for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic accommodation
inventory. Currently, none of the 105 rooms at the Pinnacle Hotel
at the Pier Lower Lonsdale are booked by VANOC and the IOC. The
North Shore 2010 cruise ship docking here is the Norwegian Star
which is three hundred metres in length and can accommodate more
than 1000 passengers and visitors at any one time starting February
10, 2010. The Vancouver 2010 cruise ship accommodations will represent
the largest ‘hotel’ in terms of number of rooms for
the Olympic Games and will be operated by Newwest Travel and will
be docked at Kinder Morgan pier. With on board amenities like
restaurants, theatre, casino and much more, bookings for these
2010 cruise ship accommodations on the North Shore are heating
up in both Canada and the United States. The European market for
bookings has been much slower thus far. In addition, the City
of North Vancouver is also contemplating docking a North Shore
2010 cruise ship at the Burrard Dry Dock Pier during the Winter
Games, but that has not yet got the go ahead. The earlier agreement
through the Deap Group for the Burrard Dry Dock 2010 cruise ship
docking fell through at the last minute, but that may be revived
sooner rather than later.
North Shore Olympic 2010 Accommodation Countdown
According to the North Shore News, both West Van and North Van
residents and homeowners are gearing up and preparing to host
the 2010 Games visitors. By Daniel, staff reporter in April 2009.
North Vancouver could only be weeks away from finding out if two
cruise ships will be docked at the city pier in Lower Lonsdale
North Shore during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. The cruise ships
would mean additional 2010 Olympic accommodations to the already
scarce supply facing the Greater Vancouver area as the Winter
Olympic Games approach in February 2010. Right now, president
of the Deap Group, Greg, confirmed that he is close to finalizing
a deal with the City of North Vancouver to bring the Olympic 2010
cruise ships to the Lower Lonsdale Pier area for the Winter Games,
which will be a breakthrough and welcome addition to accommodation
seekers and international visitors looking for alternative furnished
2010 accommodations other than 2010 hotel rooms and suites that
are fully booked and reserved for VANOC. All cruise ship based,
Deap Group is looking to berth two 2010 Olympic cruise ships in
the City of North Vancouver in addition to another 2010 cruise
ship in New Westminster Quey. A hot button issue even when the
Winter Olympic Games were awarded to Vancouver, the District of
West Vancouver could also be amending their city bylaws to allow
for short term Olympic 2010 West Vancouver accommodations, which
it currently does not allow. The manager of the West Vancouver
short term rentals permits, Liz, said that the current West Van
bylaws don’t regulate bed and breakfast and short term Olympic
2010 accommodations up to 30 days. It will be another 4 to 6 weeks
before her team can present changes to the West Vancouver bylaw
to allow for West Van 2010 rental accommodations for short term
accommodation seekers and international Olympic visitors in this
city. As West Vancouver is one of the Venue Cities for the 2010
Olympics, it makes sense to allow for short term West Van 2010
furnished rentals and short term stays. In addition, the District
of North Vancouver regulations and bylaws allow homeowners to
rent their homes to a family, or host up to two boarders or lodgers
for more than 28 days. However, North Vancouver bed and breakfast
operators are required to have a business license from the District
of North Van in order to operate at any time, including during
the Olympic 2010 bed and breakfast offering. The bylaws are seen
as a compromise in allowing for more rentable West Vancouver suites
and North Vancouver rentals but still protecting current tenants.
